برج أرنولفو: البرج الشهير في قصر فيكيو بفلورنسا

Rising from Piazza della Signoria, the Torre di Arnolfo remains one of Florence’s most recognisable — and most overlooked — landmarks, quietly dominating the skyline while most visitors focus on the Duomo below.

A tower built for defence and defiance

Completed in 1310 as part of the Palazzo Vecchio, the tower was designed with an unusual asymmetric base, reportedly to avoid incorporating the foundations of a family tower belonging to the Medici’s rivals, the Uberti — a detail explored in historical accounts of Palazzo Vecchio.

Climbing to the battlements

Visitors who climb its narrow stairs are rewarded with one of the finest panoramic views of Florence’s terracotta rooftops and Brunelleschi’s dome, especially memorable near sunset.

الأسئلة الشائعة

Can visitors climb the Torre di Arnolfo?

Yes — a ticketed climb leads to the battlements, offering sweeping views over central Florence.

Why is the tower’s base asymmetric?

Historical tradition holds it was built around the foundations of an earlier tower belonging to a rival family, resulting in its distinctive off-centre design.
