Volterra is a town built on top of a hill between the Era and Cecina rivers valleys. One of the most ancient cities was a metropolis of the Etruscans; surrounded by double walls, the Etruscan and the 13th century, it is a city with a medieval appearance, where it is still possible to enjoy the atmosphere of an ancient town.

During the Middle Ages it was the seat of the most powerful episcopal lordship.

Since ever has been known for the processing of alabaster whose artifacts are today one of the most important products of Italian craftsmanship.

Volterra boast richness in art culture and architecture: such as the Etruscan museum, the Picture gallery and the Museum of Sacred Art.

The walk continues towards the artistic and religious heart of the city: Piazza San Giovanni with the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta and the Baptistery, important examples of the medieval architecture. The Palazzo dei Priori rises in the city square, construction started in 1208, is the oldest municipal building in Tuscany.

Further, on you can admire the splendid ruins of the Etruscan Acropolis and the Roman Theater.
